    Sweet Treats & Stomach Aches

    Updated: Mar 18

Ahh, Christmas! What a wonderful season! This holiday is my absolute favorite, as I am sure is the case with most people. About a month before Advent, I begin to think about and plan for the Christmas season. Decorations, gifts, feast days during Advent, religious practices (the Jesse Tree being a favorite!) And of course, the desserts! Our family goes all out because, around here, it is not just Christmas for a day, but all 12 days!

Now, typically there is not a lot of sugar to be found around the house on a regular basis. The long and short of it is that we love how good we feel when we do not eat white sugar or white flour regularly. However, when Christmas arrives, it is time for the sugar cookies, mom's English toffee and some peppermint brownies... and that is just the starter list.😂 My husband has a joke that my family descended from hobbits. It is the truest sentiment ever!

Anyway, someone is bound to be dealing with a slight stomach ache, but with no regrets! There are a few remedies that I love to have on hand, and I will share them today.

    1. Peppermint tea. This is a classic. If I don't have tea leaves around, I will put a few drops of peppermint oil in a cup of hot water. Better than that, I love to mix peppermint and chamomile. This is a great combo!

I have also rubbed a drop of peppermint oil mixed with a tablespoon of a carrier oil (usually olive or coconut oil) onto the belly. Most of the time, this works to cure my kiddo's upset stomach and I do not have to go any further.

    2. Ginger tea or fennel tea are usually tied for second place, if I am not in the mood for the taste of peppermint.

    3. Finally, homeopathy for the win! You can read my post on my favorite remedies here. My husband and I love using Nux Vomica 30 for any stomach issue, and I have yet to have a time when it has not worked for me. As for my children, if Nux does not remedy the upset stomach, Chamomilla 200 usually will.

There you go! It is a short list, but one of these remedies is always successful for us.

Wishing you and yours well as you enjoy the festivities of this Christmas season!🎄
