    Mom's Cold and Flu Tea

    Updated: Sep 22, 2025

"Mom, I don't feel very well, " I would say in a stuffy voice. You know that cold that you get when you are tired, your body aches and your head is pounding? It is awful. My mother used to make us this tea anytime this sort of bug hit the house. Unless we were puking up everything we ate or drank, she would have us sip on a hot cup of this tea. Here is her recipe:

    Ready in 10ish minutes

    Serves 1 person

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup of boiling water

    • 1-2 drops of lemon essential oil or a half of a lemon

    • 1-2 drops of eucalyptus globulus essential oil

    • 1 tsp of Ceylon cinnamon

    • 1-1 1/2 tbsp of honey

    Preparation

    1. Place the boiling water in a mug, along with all of the other ingredients.

    2. If using an actual lemon for your tea, squeeze half of a lemon into the water and place the rest of the lemon inside the cup as well.

    3. Stir and enjoy!

    Tips

    1. Essential oils can be toxic if used in excess, so make sure to use them in moderation. My mom never gave us more than one cup of this tea per day. Hydration is also super important, when sick and when using essential oils, so drink your water!
