    Baby Colic & Fussiness

    One of the worst feelings that I have experienced as a mother is having a baby who I could not comfort. My second child was extremely colicky for the first six months of her life, and I was pretty miserable! She screamed all the time. I have vivid memories of bouncing her up and down in the bathroom (because she liked the sound of the bathroom fan) until two a.m. when she finally fell asleep. I was emotional and sleep-deprived. The pediatrician had given her a thumbs up and told me that she was a very healthy baby, and other health concerns were ruled out.  Family members would come over just to help bounce my fussy baby in order to give me a break. I would say that she was definitely what they call "a colicky baby." But, sometimes all it takes for a mother to feel overwhelmed is knowing that something is bothering her baby and she cannot fix it. After having five babies, I will share the secrets that I have learned.
